35th Dynasty
« Reply #16 on: September 11, 2007, 11:59:36 PM »

The last native dynasty in Egypt would be the "35th", a group of one or two kings in Upper Egypt in rebellion against the Ptolemaic rulers at the cusp of the third and second centuries BC.

NomenAlternativeDates
HorwenneferHarmachis, Hyrgonaphor, Haronnophris205-199
AnkhwenneferChaonnophris?199-186

Between the "two", the Ptolemaid dynasty appears to have briefly regained control.

It may be that these are one and the same ruler with a change of nomen.

Excellent. I'm very pleased with the progress we've made - the list of pharaohs is now looking pretty darned comprehensive!

I'd prefer to give Khababash his own "dynasty" as, at present, he tends to be lumped in with the Persians - which, for an anti-Persian rebel, isn't an ideal state of affairs! Smiley

24th Dynasty: -
1.Shepsesre Tefnakht I (5 years)716 to 712 BC
2.Wahkare Bakenranef (6 years)710 to 705 BC

Shepsesre Tefnakht 1 was (originally?) titled "Great Chief of the West", a series of Libyan rulers contempraneous with the Kushite dynasty. He seems to have been preceeded as Great Chief by (yet another) Osorkon, whilst Bakenranef was succeeded directly by Tefnakht 2.

Therefore, an extended version of the dynasty would look something like: -

Osorkonc.736-716
Shepsesre Tefnakht 1716-712
Wahkare Bakenranef710-705
Menkheperre Nakau 1 (Necho 1)705-686

Tefnakht 2 is termed Iribre purely to differentiate him from Tefnakht 1. He is dated to 686 as that is the end of "Dynasty 24" in favour of "Dynasty 26".

Hmmm.... what does DR have to say about Osorkon the Elder?

"Common wisdom" has it that Osorkor or Osorkon "the Elder" ruled after Amenemopet of Dynasty 21. I would've thought that Usimare Setepenamun Osorkon-sibast 2 would've been a more logical Osorkon the Elder, though the titulary doesn't match (Osorkon the Elder's praenomen is Aakheperre Setepenre).

It'd be fascinating if the two were one and the same, though I can find little else out about Dyn. 24's Osorkon in terms of titulary.

Edit: in support of the identification, Osorkon the Elder is given the title "Great Chieftain of the Meshwesh", perhaps analogous with "Great Chief of the West".
