The Medes
« on: August 26, 2007, 09:45:13 PM »

Further to the list of Persian kings discussed on this thread, I have here attempted to list details on the chronology of the kings of the Medes. As the list gives the rulers relatively long reigns, it may need revision in order to conform to the NC. However, Assyrian and Babylonian sources do occasionally contain names which may or may not represent our elusive lords of Ecbatana.

That's looking most impressive!

I must apologise for not venturing any dates for "Ctesias' list" - I have mainly posted it for the sake of being comprehensive.

What is this Ctesias' list? It does not seem to match the other list you posted very well. Or does it display another time frame altogether?

The Arbaces/Arbaku I included in the original list was reported by Ctesias as having slayed the Assyrian king Sardanapalus in the 9th century at Rehoboth on the Euphrates.

Most of the list is regarded as fictional, though, as I noted, the name Arbaku appears in an inscription of Sargon 2 (I think).....
